If email addresses are not getting formatted correctly in Outlook, they may be separated with incorrect formatting. You can change this default setting to have Outlook 2010, 2013, 2016 see commas as separating multiple email recipients by following these steps:

  • Select File > Option in Outlook.
  • Open the Mail category and go to the Send messages section
  • Put a check next to Commas can be used to separate multiple message recipients.
  • Click OK.

If you’re using Outlook 2003 or 2007 follow these steps:

  • Select Tools > Options… from the menu in Outlook.
  • Go to the Preferences tab.
  • Click E-mail Options… under E-Mail.
  • Select Advanced E-mail Options… under Message handling.
  • Place a check next to Allow comma as address separator under When sending a message.
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK once more.
