Creating an Extension

You can create, edit, and delete a due date extension by first going into the Section with the student(s) you want to assign an extension to. Next, choose the Assignment, Test or Quiz for which you want to add an extension and check the boxes by the student(s) you would like to give an extension to. Check off which student(s) you'd like to grant an extension to. Next, click on the extensions icon, and select the extension date that they would like to give to the student(s). Note the due time will default to 11:59 pm local time.

In order to edit and delete the extension, select the same student(s), click the same extensions icon, and edit the extension due date or move the due date back to the original assignment due date to remove it. Please note if the due date has passed and you provide an extension afterwards, students may have seen the answers and answer explanations.

The second place where you can create or edit a due date extension is through the Students tab under a specific student. Click on a student and then the desired assignment, quiz, or test. Next, click Options, and then Set an extension. You  can select the extension date that you would like to give to the student.

In order to edit and delete the extension, click the same Set an extension button, and edit the extension due date or move the due date back to the original assignment due date to remove it.

Giving Individual Students Extra Time

You can also use the extension feature to give an individual student extra time on a quiz or test. First go into the quiz or test that you want to give an extension in. Click the box next to the student's name for which you want to assign extra time and click the Extension icon in the top right corner. Click on the time (11:59pm is the default) and drag the hands of the clock to set a new time due for the selected student. Click OK and Save to finish.

Extending Time Limits for Individual Students

If you’re using a time limit for your quizzes or tests, you have the ability to extend that time for certain students. To do this, first ensure that you’ve toggled on the Timer option and set a time limit in your assessment (quiz or test) settings. Next, go to your section and navigate to the Students tab. Click on the student whose quiz or test time you’d like to extend. Click on the Quiz Score or Test Score tab and then the appropriate quiz or test.

Next, click the Options button on the top right-hand corner. Then click Set an extension. From here,  you can extend the time limit for your student or even turn it off altogether.

There is no need to update anything in your Learning Management System when you create an extension.
